Fluor Corporation needed to cut operating costs. Its IT budget was fixed in absolute dollar terms for the next several years. However demand for IT services continued to grow. The impending Y2K conversion required more resources to meet the Y2K deadline. To gain more value for its frozen IT budget, Fluor looked offshore and took Leverage Systems Technologies on board.
Rather than move sizeable application systems and work processes offshore, LST took a prudent approach. A set of selection criteria was put in place to determine which application systems would be suitable for offshore development, maintenance, and support. Each application system went through Y2K assessment, conversion, and testing. By the time an application was declared Y2K-ready, LST had gained sufficient knowledge and confidence to finally move the application maintenance and production support offshore.
More than three years after its successful Y2K conversion, Fluor pursues the same strategy. LST continues on board, providing offshore maintenance and support for an increasing number of application systems, both old and new.
